Apparently, after much confusion, Zooey Deschanel is in fact engaged to Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie.
I had no clue that they were dating for the past year, but I think they make a hella cute couple. They'll definitely make great music together, and if it gets there, one awesomely adorable baby with a cow-lick in tow.
Congratulations to the second coolest indie rock couple! (Of course Win & Regine take the cake.)
1. TV on the Radio- Dear Science I know this album has been on many lists this year, but I truly believe this was the best album of 2008. It really hit the spot for me after the slump of albums that were coming out. Gems: Dancing Choose, Family Tree, Love Dog 2. MGMT- Oracular Spectacular I totally forgot that this album was released in 2008, as I have heard about them since last year. MGMT is a big ball of psychedelia, and fun. If you're into the whole "strangely-endearing-slightly-esoteric-I think I'm high" hipster indie music, then this is REALLY for you. Gems: Electric Feel, Weekend Wars, Time to Pretend 3. Vampire Weekend- Vampire Weekend Personally, Vampire Weekend achieved the impossible; they make me not want to beat up preppy school kids....or at least ones that make good music. Their songs are catchy, and very upbeat. If you're planning on a beachy vacation, play some volleyball with "A-Punk" in the background, and you're set. Gems: Oxford Comma, A-Punk, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa 4. The Walkmen- You & Me You & Me has an echoey ambience that really sets the mood. The melodies are breezy, making it feel almost effortless as you slowly drift in and out of consciousness. Make sure not to fall asleep though. This album deserves attention, if you want to enjoy it to its fullest. Gems: Seven Years of Holidays (for Stretch, Canadian Girl, In the New Year 5. Lykke Li- Youth Novels Lykke Li, by far, has the most beautiful voice out there. It's gental, yet strained, and finds away to sound absolutely perrrrrfect live. Her songs are catchy pop songs, but there is a definite edge to her live shows; things aren't as they seem. Gems: Breaking it Up, I'm Good, I'm Gone, and Dance Dance Dance
Oh gag me. I hate to have to write about this, but it's the truth now. Mats Sundin is leaving Toronto for the wonderfully cloudy Vancouver.
I was a huge supporter of Sundin staying in T.O., so this news breaks my heart. I always believed that he wanted to win the Stanley Cup in Toronto, but his time has come to look for a realistic opportunity. Our team is currently in the pits, so I suppose I don't blame him.
I personally won't "boo" him when he comes back in February. I think the only person who deserves our "boo-ing" is Vince Carter. Vince gave up on our team and began to act like a sissy. Mats on the other hand, fought every chance he had.
This is probably the only movie right now that I really really want to see. Everything about it looks so beautiful, and it has been having unbelievable reviews. I know that when I watch it, I'm going to be cringing, crying, and gasping, but I know it is worth it. It is supposed to open here in December (or March? IFC is confusing me), but most likely in limited release. My sister could've seen it at TIFF, but noooo... she was too lazy to wake up early and watch it. -_-
America FINALLY got it right! After some major trial and error, the United States of America has finally found its right footing, and will rightfully so, be moving in the right direction.
I've always been fascinated as to why us Canadians are so interested in the US elections, and I figured it comes down to 4 things:
1. An African American is...wait. WAS running, and now is President-elect. 2. Obama has charisma, and eloquence. Something lacking from the last administration. 3. The relationship that Canada will have with the U.S. 4. Sarah Palin. It's sad. But so true.
I hope that someday I can be a part of a Canadian or even an American election that has the same type of impact on the world. It hasn't been since Trudeau that Canada got some of our very nicely-kept feathers ruffled.
As much as I had wished that the Liberals had won in our election, who honestly gave a crap about what Stephane Dion was talking about? Did he inspire you? He can't even play street hockey! We need someone with charisma, and character that will evoke what Canada is really all about, and motivate young voters.
I personally think that someone like Bob Rae or Gerard Kennedy would be more inspirational not only for the Liberal Party, but for Canada. They have something that Stephen Harper, and Stephane Dion are missing as leaders- assertion. I'm definitely not interested in having another election 2 years from now because that is just a big ass waste of our tax money, but I'd like to see a new face for Canadian Politics. We need someone to "wow" us again.
I'm deeply fascinated by TV on the Radio's front man, Tunde Adebimpe (awesome name by the way).
He has many facets of creativity in his life that I admire. He's a musician, an actor, and an animator.
I watched an interview that he did a while back at the Accelerator Festival. It made me like him even more because he seems so laid back, and friendly.

I haven't had much time on my hands, and so I haven't had much time to sit down and type away on my blog; but, I should catch up to where I was before.
About a week ago, Paul Newman passed away, and I was aboslutely devastated. When you look at Hollywood, and the culture that comes with being in the public-eye, sometimes you can feel revolted by it. With Paul Newman, there was no way to hate him; he was just that perfect. I honestly believe that he is one-of-a-kind, and that he is the apitome of PERFECTION.
I got my first experience of Paul Newman from Hud. I remember surfing through channels on a boring weekend, and then in awe of this man's presence on screen, and how gorgeous he looked with that cowboy hat. From then on, I've been in love with Paul Newman. He incapsulates what I think every husband should be, every actor should be, and every human being should be. He never sold himself out, and never gave into "The Man."
When I found out about his death, I cried. And I cried a lot. I didn't think I woould have such a reaction to a death of an actor, but it truly, and deeply broke my heart. I had known things were looking grim, but I never imagined him leaving us so quickly, and so unexpectedly.
Paul Newman will be missed. Because I admired him so much, it was an obvious decision to make him my "Man of the Week"
I've had such a hectic week, I think my head is still spinning. I've had tests after tests, and loads of homework that take forever for me to finish. I really hope next week comes with some rest.
So, yesterday I watched Grey's Anatomy with very low expectations as Shonda Rhimes has been having visible problems with character arches on the show. At the end of the last season, I swear there was no character development for Meredith!
The episode started off a little slow, but it wasn't until I saw Major Owen Hunt come onto the screen, that I knew that it was going to get better. My sister at that moment, told me that apparently he is the new love interest for Cristina, and I could definitely tell.
I thought he was good looking enough to be one of the Mc(insert word of choice). Owen Hunt looked a lot like Kevin Mckidd but I wasn't too sure, since Major Hunt seemed to be a red-head, and I've only seen him as a blonde. So, I googled Kevin McKidd, and found out that it was him! By that point, my jaw was on the ground from shock, because I remembered him from Rome and Trainspotting, and I was really happy to see that he has made it in Hollywood.
Apparently, McArmy is coming back, and I approve of it. Cristina needs a new man in her life, that is a little more meat and potatoes, and from watching the episode last night, they definitely have good chemistry.
My only fear is that they will overdo the masculine army thing, as his name was almost too much to handle.
I think I'll watch this season more attentively, now that Lucius Vorenus has joined the cast.
I got my hands on the new TVOTR, and it sounds really great. I think they really found their footing, and have refined their musical style. I noticed while I was listening to DLZ, all I could think of was Radiohead.
It had a very Radiohead-esque sound in the beginning, and the atmospheric sound that Radiohead pulls off very well. It reminded me of "All I Need" in particular. It's not note for note, but the intros on both of the songs have a similar feel.
I really can't wait for it to come out officially, because it is worth buying.
I'm also really interested in seeing Tunde in Rachel Getting Married. I've never seen him act before, so I'm super curious.
TV On The Radio- "DLZ"(mp3) Radiohead- "All I Need"(mp3)
Edna Krabappel has always been one of the overlooked characters on The Simpsons, because of her Spinster-esque life that we fear to have, but I think we should cut her some slack. It's not all her fault. She just needs a good man like Ted Koppel. No more Seymour Skinner, no more Gordie Howe, and no more Comic Book Guy.
Ted is the man.
Sure, he's married. Sure, he's 68 years old, but that doesn't mean he can't love anymore!
So here's to the future lovely couple!
...
Oh yeah, and my blog has nothing to do with The Simpsons, OR Ted Koppel. My blog is music and entertainment-oriented, but I chose this as my blog name, because it sounds awesome, and it friggin' rhymes!
